Gilbert's Games is getting a Regency make over to mark the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's death.
Gilbert's Games is an annual family event where families can have a go at a range of eighteenth century games and hobbies. Ever tried your hand at Stool Ball or Aunt Sally? Now is your chance. This year, we will be joined once again by the Hampshire Regency Dancers and new guests the Dandy Chargers, who display Regency pedestrian hobby horses. We will have an area dedicated to Jane Austen, her novels and the Regency era, with games, crafts and activities for all ages.
Gilbert White was Jane Austen's nearest literary neighbour. Although Gilbert died in 1793, the success of his book The Natural History of Selborne was just starting to peak when Austen lived in Chawton.
