The Bank of England will unveil the new £10 note featuring Jane Austen on the 200th anniversary of her death, 18 July 2017. The new note will recognise her universal appeal and enduring contribution to English literature. This event will be the first opportunity the public have to see the new notes and learn about their features ahead of them entering circulation in September. Bank of England staff will be on hand until 5pm to allow visitors to handle the new notes.

Jane Austen joins Sir Winston Churchill, Adam Smith and Matthew Boulton and James Watt in showcasing British culture on the circulating Bank of England banknotes.

Jane Austen died in Winchester in 1817 and is buried in the north aisle of the Cathedral. This event is one of many taking place to mark this anniversary and is another chance to celebrate her life.
